Description
We have breastfed babies for all of human history, but we have also supplemented them when breastfeeding is not enough, with wet nurse milk or animal milk. Historical data across the globe has shown that prior to the modern era, babies were readily supplemented with “pre-lacteal feeds” in the days before full milk supply comes in (lactogenesis II) and yet were successfully breastfed for 1-2 years and more! Research has shown that these supplemental feeds protected newborns from medical complications of inadequate feeding like jaundice, dehydration, and low blood sugar when colostrum is not enough or when lactogenesis II is delayed.
In this class, we teach parents a method of promoting breastfeeding that has been practiced across the globe for millennia. It encourages frequent and adequate latching that teaches new babies how to breastfeed and stimulates milk production. We also teach parents to honor their baby’s right to be protected from hunger and thirst by supplementing for signs of inadequate feeding while protecting them from medical complications related to it. We give parents the confidence to start off breastfeeding right with flexibility and comfort while making their baby’s safety the highest priority.
This class is due out in October 2024.
